if you do, here's how you can start.
the easiest thing you can do that will make a huge impact is to catch a friendly female and neuter her. i say friendly because you health and welfare are important. if you get injured, you may be reluctant to try to help another cat. i say female because it takes only one female cat to create a tonne of kittens. if we keep the number of females low, then we can control the stray population much more effectively. all you need carrier some food rm60 for klinik kembiri luck ![]() remember, even if you can only afford to do one cat every other month, that's six cats a year. and if ten of us do this, then it's sixty cats a year. that is a huge difference. so instead of feeling sorry for them and feeding them (and thus making more kittens), NEUTER them.

actually for people who are unable to keep cats inside for long, then I would suggest to go for the males! Male neutering requires 1 day max rest and usually they are up and running in a jiffy. females i dare not release so early.

I sent two stray female cats for neutering at SPCA-Klinik Kembiri... it cost RM65 per cat and receipt is TAX DEDUCTIBLE!
However, they charge RM15 for a collar! Thus, making it RM80 per female cat spaying. I am not sure if you can refuse buying the collar (I didn't go there myself ... a nice lady helped me to send the cats there...) but I am sure you can bring along a collar to avoid buying one! And yes, "luck" too that the cats heal well. One of the cats had a little problem with the stitches, and I ended up paying more for sending her to the vet! But hey, at least she now licks me in appreciation! Also, I have managed to find a home for the other cat... hoping that all ends well and she is well-loved! She is in good hands! Once the other heals, (she is on anti-biotic and anti-inflammatory drugs now) .... I hope someone will adopt her too...... fingers crossed! Last edited by bina : 21-06-2008 at 11:13 AM. |

heartkiel and bina
girls do need a little more care but i have had many experiences where the female is up and running the same evening. i think it is critical to find the healthy looking ones. they bounce back real quick and are the likeliest to get impregnated. you can refuse the carrier and pain killer too. i never medicate any of our cats because i found that cats on pain killers tend to over exert themselves and thus bust their stitches. if they feel sore, they are more sensible about leaping about.

There were no painkillers given.... the stitches just didn't heal...
I know what heartkiel meant, I actually had to keep the cats indoor for two weeks, in a cage, to ensure that they healed properly... so, it is quite a challenge having to feed, clean up after them and not forgetting their random choir at nightime ..... meow meow meow ..... I guess, if we all do a little, Alicia is certainly right about the maths! We can all make a difference! |

I would actually advice those who are starting new to start on males, as when you catch females adults especially........ 1) Make sure they are not nursing mom and has kittens hidden somewhere 2) She could be pregnant also *you don't want people catching the mother cat leaving behind the kittens For 1st timers go for males & kittens.

on second thought, you guys are right. we usually hokd the girls ten days for observation before sending them in for an op, so we have a very fair idea of how healthy they are.
so boys and kittens it is for you ![]() whatever it is, every prevented pregnancy counts!
