Dandruff
I bought a persian last Friday from Petsmore. It was love at first sight so had to take her home. She is 2 months gray kitten. My brother and I inspected the kitten well, she looked healty and playfull and looked like a doll. After giving her shower at home and on the second day my brother noticed a tiny patch of white flac on the head. A very small patch. My brother says it is dandruff... than he examined her whole body the same found at the skin of the tail and some at the paws side. Its hard to notice because of the dense furr. To me its doesnt seem like fungus (I can be wrong). Anyone having persian, can you tell me if cats get dandruff? Any cream to apply? Is that contagious to their other cats? I would like to try cream first rather than medicated shampoo because she is only 2 months and dont plan to shower her so often.

Hi Kulstud,
My Wesley which is DSH do hv this flaky white stuff on his body once when I comb him. Usually this white flake is actually oil which produced by the cat's body n it had dried up. Cats r juz like us whereby we produce oil when sweating. Usually a bath with medicated shampoo (formulated for cats of course) would solve this problem. U can bath the kitten once a week (for 2 or maybe 3 weeks) n make sure u massage his body (especially the flake area) so that the shampoo can go deeply to the skin. Examine the patches after a few days n see the results. U can go to the vet n get the correct shampoo n while u do that, u can take the flake sample for ur vet examination under microscope. Juz to be sure it is not Seborrhea or Cheyletiellosis (Walking Dandruff Mite) P/s: Always bath the kitten / cat with warm water during a sunny day. Dry him up with a towel thoroughly to avoid the kitten/cat shivers.
