Red face How To Groom Cats

hi there anyone know the best way to groom your longhair puss? my mixed persian is my first, kind of blur lah... i just adopted her about a week, she got semi longhair which is white and quite yellow at her tails and undersides... i have bathed her using vet cat soap and combed her everyday...

last night i bought her cat comb, brush and massager... but i have no idea how to use it. the instructions said brush, comb then massage... but a lot of fur come out of the brush. should i comb first?

1. Comb
2. Brush (The bristle type)
3. Massager?

That's the order of events. Not sure what kind of massager you're referring too though.

Combing is normally first as it is used to help identify if there are any issues with the coat such as fleas, hidden mats, etc. This one is to be done gently since some cats, well the coat isn't silky smooth and the comb gets tangled, they don't like that. Also in events the comb runs into a mat. Lots of hair coming out is relatively normal under natural circumstances, this means you haven't been grooming the fella regularly. But if patches of hair come off then, you have a skin/coat condition.

After that, brush to finish up.

That's how I do it.

wooz....

thanks, i believe that should be the correct order. the instructions said brush first, but then my cat's fur come out a lot. so, i comb first.. the massager is circular type, with soft rubber bristles. bought the things from jusco...

anyway, i gave my cat a bath with sunlight dishwashing liquid as the fur quite yellow... found in one of the thread, "use axion for yellowish white fur". so my cat kind of whiter now, from slightly yellowish previously...

maybe need another round of sunlight, then i stick back to vet cat soap...

They had try this on dogs on certain parts of the body... but cats ... I donno.... cats tend to lick their fur... Even on my dogs previously I didn't use dish washing liquid. The best way I think to get those shampoo with high white and no tears. Its blue in colour selling in major pet store.Even my vet are using it. It tears free so you dont have to woory if its get into the cat's eye.

P/S : White kitten may become yellowish coz they didn't know to maintain their coats well and they like to play at those dirty places. But when they become older, they groome themself more and become whiter

H, your eyes have gone so big.

catalina, your cat is all white? And you mean you bathed your cat whole with dishwashing liquid?? You didn't do that right......

That method is only for affected areas and normally a super quick one. Quite risky too since it lathers pretty well and if the cat licks it or if any suds get into the eyes, oh nooooo. Aiks.

afi76, that's the way man. The way we general groomers go about. You're talking about Bio-Groom Super White is it? Effective only on minor stains for me.

wooz....

aiyo... you guys don't freak out la...

yes, i washed arwen using sunlight dishwashing liquid. remember, she WAS a stray before and her fur is all yellowish instead of white. so, i pick her up and go to the bathroom, close the door and wet her. then i lather the sunlight on my hand and apply the suds to her fur la. after that i rinse her alot, till no bubbles come out - means no soap residue. i don't apply on her face. wash her face using water only.

now she's whiter... healthier and loves to groom herself. don't worry, i'll use cat soap as i feel only twice is enough. her fur is really soft, like kapas now

p/s: sorry forget to mention actually she's a white cat except the tail. i don't know whether the tail is naturally yellowish or gets yellowish

can anyone recommend me a good cat shampoo? i bathed my Knight last night and all the fur shed off...banyak gile... i'm so concerned la. i'm pretty sure it's not the food, as i think IAMS is good enough for his intake, but then again, i could be wrong.

Hi Lucy,
well, u kena tengok jugak sebab si Casper aku nie dulu makan Iams pun shed a lot of fur, so i terpaksa tukar ke EP. so, karang dia makan EP, fur dia bukan tak tanggal langsung tapi kurang drp masa dia makan IAMS. anyway, ko ada bagi Knght makan benda lain ke selain dr IAMS? cam junk food ke apa ke?
