o.k here is general basic grooming (not a show grooming).

FIRST COMB

1. Use comb to take out dead hair. Cut any matted if necessary but be extremely careful. Check also if there any fleas or skin problem. If your cat suffer from a lots of dead hair, then its coat must be dry or skin problem.
2. Cut their nails and check the nails, if the nails is dirty then your cat must have an ear problem (as scat will scratch their ears).
3. Check the ear for any ear mites, yeast or anything. Should only dirty, clean the outer ear with cutton buds (gently) for a little inner side use ear cleaner and wipes with facial cottons.
4. Check nose, eyes, coat for any problems. Some coat may dry - usually because lack of water or coat vitamins.

BATHING

1. I use All Systems Syampoo (save for all colors), or whatever syampoo you have pls follow the instructions.
2. Do not use cold water, use warm water.
3. i do not bath the cat first, i put the syampoo and a little water (mixed) and spray on them. Gently massage. Be extra cautions on paws, backside.
4. Then flush them with water. Face to be avoided. Use wet towel for face.
5. Dry them using towel (or in my case, I use chamois towel).

NOTE : Grab any necessary armour if necessary.

DRYING

Most of people, like to put their cat in the sun for drying. This is BAD. Because, some of dark colors may spoilt with sun bathing and your cat have to lick itself till dry which cause of hairballs (some hairballs that stuck inside stomach is dangerous).

1. Use cage if you need to. Blow them dry using blower or you may use fan.
2. After dry, blow them again with hot air (such as hair dryer). Make sure the coat really dried or your cat will suffer matted.
3. Gently comb them, start with wide-tooth brush and when everythings fine, using the finer one.
4. Finally use shedding comb to take out all the dead hair once again..
5. Give them some threats. Up you go!

NOTE : Some of this guide is not suitable for Sphynx

Takut bila dah tua...lupa nombor peti besi!

anyway someone PM me asking, what should we do when we founded that the cat have ear mites.

O.k...ear mites cannot be cure within one treatment. Use Oribiotic (You can find at coony's shop or any vet clinic) or otomax. Usually its need 3-4 (days) treatment. Apply the solution into cat ears everyday..and after o.k, bath them again, as the wax will come out from ears.

Some of the ear mites can come and go base on the cat stress.

I agree with what you have written BUT the above. It totally depends on length of hair for drying. I personally do not recommend blow drying for short hair cats. Sun dry is better IMO (especially for reds, whites and pointed cats). For Long hairs yes, indeed blow drying is advisable especially since fungus can occur as well as matting if the cat is left to dry itself.

Guess everybody knows I owned only Longhairs from time being . However, is there any special grooming tips for shorthair cats??. Perhaps, Abyssinians breeder would like to share? Some color tips, maybe?

I have already given some tips above - iro sun drying. Since we are only discussing basic grooming nothing else is relevant.

With any cat, what matters with bathing and drying is the coat/skin condition itself. You must first determine what kind of coat your cat has...is it long, short, coarse, smooth, silky. You must also determine whether your cat needs a medicinal bath or not. Once you have determined that, you must then decide what you want to happen to the coat once the cat is bathed and dried - do you want a fluffy coat, sleek and shiny etc.

If you just want the cat to be clean then what arisham has detailed above is enough.

If you want more than what has been stated then I would suggest you check your pockets first...top grooming shampoos and conditioners are NOT CHEAP! They actually cost MORE than regular human shampoos!

Once you embark on great grooming (ie. read show grooming and/or conditioning your cat for shows), you must be prepared to buy what you need - special combs, brushes, shampoos (more than one most times) conditioners, texturisers etc. As you have read in my Teflon thread, even a comb can cost RM30! And we haven't even talked about the different types of brushes OR shampoos.

Another thing you will need is a good hairdryer esp. for long hair cats....

Thumbs up Here's a tip

Instead of using towels, invest in a microfibre towel....excellent for drying cats! Can buy from any petshop or even hardware shop - If you are lucky you can get two for the price of one - and one usually costs RM23 or so.

Another tip:

If you plan to bathe your cat, clip nails at least one or two days earlier...then the scratching (if any) wont draw blood!

Good tips!, Abymummy.

Tip :

Some cat have bad habit of peeing when you start blow dry, then you need to start blow dry when they still in the bath room.

p/s did i call you evil? again you read it wrongly...get back to dict!.
