Start brushing at your cat’s head and slowly move toward the tail in long and gentle strokes. Use a grooming brush but remember to use an extra soft brush when you groom the face.

Yes..do not draw the comb from head to tail straight away...use layer-by-layer style.

With any cat, what matters with bathing and drying is the coat/skin condition itself. You must first determine what kind of coat your cat has...is it long, short, coarse, smooth, silky. You must also determine whether your cat needs a medicinal bath or not. Once you have determined that, you must then decide what you want to happen to the coat once the cat is bathed and dried - do you want a fluffy coat, sleek and shiny etc.

If you want more than what has been stated then I would suggest you check your pockets first...top grooming shampoos and conditioners are NOT CHEAP! They actually cost MORE than regular human shampoos!

and to dig in a little more information........my most expensive shampoo (in 16 ounces standard size) was HK$450 (about 200 ringgit).........

I have a collection of some 150+ shampoos in my arsenal, a lot of them are pet products while many other are for human use primarily but indeed do a marvelous job in cat grooming after a series of proven experiments on cats........

However after all these years of repeated experiments I have nailed down to using perhaps just 15 of them for the most........not to say that the rest are not good, but these 15 perhaps are the best of the bests for my grooming needs..........

I have recommended a human shampoo (about HK$250, or 100 ringgit, per 400ml) which I use as bodifying / texturising shampoo to a lot of breeders, Persian and many longhair included from which many of them are owners of this year's Divisonal Winners. And all the comments I have got so far are more than positive and this shampoo is now the integral part of their show grooming weapons - Adilah I'm sure you know which one I'm talking about, and let's see if I'm lucky enough to get you another bottle from Japan before the HK show..........

And I also love to mix my own shampoo out of shampoos of different brands for very specific results, and I have, in all these years, written down results of my grooming / bathing in a few note books. Now that they are so full of words........like diaries.........

To me, the "magic" happens in the texturising / volumising / bodifying step.....but it is something words alone do not say it all - it's the thing you need your hands to tell you............

And of course there are a lot of tricks in how to apply shampoo to your cat - just pour in? diluted? - but then again these are pretty much the basic - for advanced show grooming what about temperature and pH, and how to control them...........and what about regional application?

A tricky question - how to apply shampoo in very high temperature without hurting the cats? And why high temperature is needed?

Ever tried Fuller Earth in degreasing instead of the like of Goop?

Aren't these interesting?

Grooming is an odyssey to me...........

If you just want the cat to be clean then what arisham has detailed above is enough.

If you want more than what has been stated then I would suggest you check your pockets first...top grooming shampoos and conditioners are NOT CHEAP! They actually cost MORE than regular human shampoos!

Once you embark on great grooming (ie. read show grooming and/or conditioning your cat for shows), you must be prepared to buy what you need - special combs, brushes, shampoos (more than one most times) conditioners, texturisers etc. As you have read in my Teflon thread, even a comb can cost RM30! And we haven't even talked about the different types of brushes OR shampoos.

Another thing you will need is a good hairdryer esp. for long hair cats....

hey Adilah I must say as a shorthair breeder and not terrifically experienced in dealing with longhair cats, you have done a very good job grooming my Babylon and presented him just so brilliantly in his granding-show - you might have done a better grooming job than some wegies breeders I have seen in shows before.........

Why thank you very much for that nice compliment - everything I know about grooming LH cats comes from ferreting out tips and tricks from LH breeders/ exhibitors such as yourself, Proventus, Justkatzz, Versace, Cat4Love, Zenithi, Zuliatiku.

I must say that grooming Blob was my very first in grooming a seriously high white...terrifying but rewarding in the end

I myself have a huge collection of pet shampoos and human ones as well! The ones I don't like sit prettily on the shelf, and the ones I do get re-ordered (as well you know) frequently.

It is important that you train your hands to learn the difference between a clean, greaseless coat v. still dirty, greasy or over dry. Once you've learned that, the sky's the limit!

If you plan to bathe your cat, clip nails at least one or two days earlier...then the scratching (if any) wont draw blood!

What is a Microfibre towel ? Yg pakai utk lap cermin kereta yg tak meninggalkan fabric spots tu ker?

those that I have been using for ages when I was still playing semi professional basketball............

these towels suck in a lot of water in a short time with their wonderfully small size.........used to be VERY expensive, especially those made by premium sports brands (Mizuno, Asics) but now I see cheap versions of them everywhere and they are now perhaps just a fraction of their prices 20 years ago............

I got one for my own use (1.5m x 0.8m) recently in a night market for only HK$80, which is something like 35 ringgit..........similar sized products of premium sports brands (those mentioned above) would cost you HK$300 then at least when they were first introduced to the market some 20 years ago (I guess).............
