Dear Friends,

Perhaps somebody could advise should the above happened to any one of us. I've had an experiences once when my cats got stolen from my house. My back door wire grill being cut, just enough for my kitten to pass through. After two weeks, accidentaly found her in a petshop. To reclaim the cat, we did a police report, produce the early photo of the cat and paying the petshop.

I wonder if this is the right thing to do. Does legal options can be exercised here if :-

1. The pet shop simply buy cats from strangers
2. The pet shop didn't ask the seller to produce prove ownership of the cat
3. The pet shop charging the original owner cost of boarding and the price being paid to the seller

Possibly along the lines of being charged with purchase or possession of stolen goods, just like stolen paintings, cars, etc ....

As far as I know there is no legislation that covers this...

However, the only way I know to avoid paying the petshop any money for your OWN cat is to have all your cats microchipped. Then there is proof that the cat was stolen.

Abymummy can cat also put the microchip?i thought its only for dog.huhhuhuhu,Coz usually dog always come with microchip

Yes, dear, you can microchip a cat Will cost anywhere from RM25-75 (depending on the vet) per cat.

not so expensive... it should be practise on cat too as Nowdays people tend to do anything to get money..haiyo ..need to be careful when somebody advertise selling cat ...need to check first..especially at petshop...

Dukunlintah, the shop can definitely be charged with possession of stolen goods mcm kedai beli parts of a dismantled stolen car, or stolen hifi sets ... but you need to supply proof (eg. police report) that it is the same cat you lost that they had in their possession serupa la like chasis number for engine, stolen paintings, jewellery, radio, PCs, notebooks, hifi sets, kasut kita stolen from our house, furniture, etc. ... you name it ... do you remember the goldsmith that was charged in this manner becos they bought the jewellery from the thieves and then even melted them?

Possible charge also can be as an accomplice or abetting in a crime of theft. You read all these charges in the newspapers all the time.

No need, can borrow from the vet or DVS - esp. if it's a police case.

Abymummy,do u know which vet have this service?? Mine takdelah.My pretty Flowerhorn was catnap 3 or 4 mths ago. I saw her dekat rmh neighbour but I cannot go to her house and take her just like that without any proof.
