Hi, I'm a new member too. Visited this site a few times but only now registered to be able to send in postings. Currently catless. I'm not sure what it is but my cats keep disappearing. My daughters would pick up strays, I would send them to the nearest vet for the shots but after a few months they would disappear, this has happened three times. The last was a black stray that my daughter brought home that was barely a few weeks old. I had to feed her special kitten milk with a syringe. We had her for 6 months. She would snuggle and latch on my T-shirt, paws as if it's her mommy's breast and suckle on the bit of T'shirt until it gets really wet. She still does it everytime even when she was off the syringe and bouncing about. But I do not know where we did wrong, she has a habit of jumping on our feet and really biting. we were stalked!. I guess she takes us as her sibling and she was just playing but sometimes it can get too much. She was a hazard to my nephew and niece that come avisiting. We loved her regardless and hoped she would outgrew her friskiness. Then one fine day, she was gone. We keep her caged at night but set her free during the day. It has been 3 weeks so I doubt she would be coming back. I hope if someone takes her in, they would be patient with her biting. That's being positive. I dread to think something bad has fallen on her.

hi munju... welcome to the forum... enjoy your stay a piece of advise, next time your daughter find a nice cat, just keep it indoors and catproof your home... that way, you won't lose your cat and your daughter will be happy with her cat |

Thanks Catalina,
But how practical is it to cat proof? I live in a corner lot house and I love to see the cats being able to laze in the garden. Keeping them house bound the only answer? |

Hi Minju, u're staying SD as well ha... welcome, welcome. It is a risk that u're taking if u let ur cats outdoor. Not just he/she would be disappear (either being cat-napped or something even worse could happen..) but also injuries n diseases that might contracted. U can let ur cats out in ur garden provided ur compound is properly cat-proof so that they could not go out to the street. If this is not possible, then just keep them indoors for the sake of their health n safety. I lived in a condo n I had 3 cats. I had never let them ot fr my condo (except a trip to the vet). My 2 older cats would not step out fr my main gate. They would just gaze out but the moment there's any noise (door opens, lift buzzer), they would dash away. My other cat, Speed is very curious n once in a while I would bring him at my condo public hall n let him wander there with a leash... what's important that u need to spend time with ur cat when they were keep indoors. PLay with them n pamper them... that is more than enough...

hi minju,
cat proofing might not be practical to you, but might save you and your daughter heartache of losing another cat. i live in a rented house, cat proofing the garden is also impossible. but my cats are content indoors. furthermore, the garden also quite big. my plan for my own house is to dedicate the backyard to my cats by building a huge enclosed garden where i can rest in privacy and my cats can play safely oudoors. |
