My cat Issy (short for Isabelle), does the "stepping thing" as well... Although i dun consider it a massage, but sometimes it hurts when she retracts her claws while "stepping"...

Actually i read it somewhere that they do this stepping thing to their mother's bellies for milk, and its common among kittens..

However, my Issy being an old cat of 4 yrs still does it to me! Probably she thinks i am her mummy!!!

[QUOTE=woozy]The name Jasper does already leave an impression of a pretty neat cat in the household, eli. Looking forward to some pictures and if the scanner still turns out instructions in Spanish, I think you'll have to check the user preferences out and see if there's an option for English. Otherwise, re-install la.

thanks, we think he's a pretty cool cat too. toyed with Casper (cos of his colour) and decided on Jasper.
yup, tried re-installing several times and picking English for option. tak boleh jugak

Yeah, they still do their kneading on us humans every now and then but the ones that weigh 5kg and above can be a bit of a breath stopper when they do that when you're sleeping cos they don't walk up, they just land on your belly from god knows flying from where.

hehe, when that happens, there could be a huge dent in one's belly! i hope jasper never grows to be that weight!

One day lazing on the planter chair with my feet up watching TV. The then big kitten decided to launch from the armchair 4 feet away and onto my belly. I did not know what hit me, no time to even register pain or breathlessness.Phew. My little Blankie is fast growing up and even getting into fights with other cats.

poor u! any bruise marks?
blankie is the male kitty, right? we quickly got tommy neutered after he went missing for many hours one day and returned late battered - huge hole on his side. had to scrounge ard for a vet at almost 10pm!
but i'm told the male cat, once neutered, less likely to get into fights (esp during mating periods lah!).
my jasper is also growing fast and i'm watching him to decide when he gets to become (like my nephew puts it) an eunuch!

the first time he did it, i wanted to name him MJ for michael jackson! i thot it was like the moonwalk!
Jasper is still too light to actually make a noticeable difference to our anatomy when he does his "kneading massage" so i hope he puts on some weight!
also, one night i was lying on my stomach and he kneaded my back!
does anyone have a similar experience?

My Bubbles knead me on my shoulder and face when she is half asleep. My Baby she likes to suckle my finger when she was growing up (fr 1 month till 9 months) Usually when she is half asleep. She still does once or twice now but only when she is very sleepy.... Cute eh, just like human baby

hi there,
your nyenc is so understanding! jasper seems to have taken 'cuti' - not doing the massage much these days but bukan main kuat makan!
also very vocal, almost like talking sometimes! wonder if i can teach him simple phrases? he seems able to say "no" at times!

Dear Eli,

the cats do not always "massage" cos they do it as and when they feel like doing it. The kneading motion reminds them of the moment when they were still kitten, they knead their mum's belly to press for more milk. It also sort of remind them of their childhood time. I think Jasper "massages" you because you remind him of his mum. You know the feeling that Jasper has is warm, secured, manja, happy n contented, relaxed, etc. Try this, stroke Jasper gently around the belly, under the neck, on the forehead until he's very syiok like want to sleep, so that it can bring back the "memory" and it will trigger him to do more massages. But also remember that cats do things as and when they like and as and when they are told !!

hm, yet to try your suggestion but so far, Jasper has not needed all those 'steps' u mentioned. if he wants to, he just jumps up on my belly and start! sometimes he is beside me and does the thigh too!
anyway, he's really grown a lot and standing up to Coco - who tends to just swipe at him whenever he comes near - and trying to get her to play too.
must get my scanner working so i can post their pix. honestly, i can't imagine what life would be without my dogs and cats, esp. cats which i used to hate!
