Default Taking care of kitten

Welcome JxT2J!

After so many welcomes, I have not seen anyone advise you in how to take care of the kitten - well, I just got around 2 months experience of taking care of a 6 months old cat/kitten, I hope I'm 'qualify' enough yeah...

Anyway, the essentials for raising kitten: quality food (premium food preferred), fresh water always, a litter box and cat litter (can be sand/wood), pet shampoo, grooming tools (brush, comb)... toys, scratching poll/pads etc. These can be obtained from the pet supply store. You'd have to take the cat to a vet for immunization as well. I'm not too sure whether you'll need to feed the kitten milk or not. When giving her the kibbles (dry food), make sure it's for kitten. Kitten food refers to those meant for cats 1 - 12 months. Make sure there's a nice warm place for her to sleep. Don't forget to play with her when you're back from class

This are just briefly what your cat's physical need. The most important thing is always your tender loving care and your heart You won't go wrong once you start treating the kitten with your heart and give her the best you can afford, that's all I've to say

Hope the rest of the forumer would be able to help you out with their experiences. If you need further elaboration, please let me know

you might also consider having another kitten to accompany your kitten that might need company when you are at class...

trust me, two is better than one

well, usually we wud wait for questions n then we answer. we can't just spill everything out at 1 go ya. i guessed it is best that whoever wanted to know whatever could us whatever...
actually what BG had mentioned is true n perhaps i cud 'fine-tuned' a bit. For me, having 3 cats in a 4 years period of time still haven't qualify as a experienced n i m still learning. that is y we need forum like this to exchange views n experiences.
milk is not good for cats (except from their mothers). dun feed ur cats with commercial milk which consume by us. they might caused stomach discomfort n perhaps diarrhoea to ur cats.

yes indeed 2 cats r better than 1 n so is more. But always remember that if u r mentally n financially ready for a 2nd cat or more, pls go ahead. it is important not just for ur cats but u as well. always think on a positive realistic side 1st since it is a huge responsibility to take an animal as a pet.

Jx,
Don't forget to deworm her as this is basic step for a cat's health. Actually a trip or call to a vet will be most useful. Just be sure to go to a reasonable charging vet

Default Milk Smilk

Dear H,

I think JxT2J had mentioned that 'need help from you ppl'... so I assume that as call for help but then I could be wrong ..

Dear JxT2J,

The 'milk' mentioned from my previous post was referring to the kitty formula sold at pet supply stores. I saw some just the other day when I went to Pet Safari to get some vitamins for Kitty. Yeah, besides all the essentials, and if you could afford it, do get vitamin for Nikky Saw her pic in your other post. She's so cute!

I feed my kitten Friskas (dry food) and have always make sure it's the kitten type. I did some research on the Interent and found out that cats are lactose intolerant, which means they could not digest milk that humans drink. The best milk for her is her mother's milk, or a pet shop's recommendation.

She sleeps on newspapers, although I often let her out of her basket and she will always run to my bed and take naps.

I brought her to the vet on New Year's Day. The vet immunized her with 3 jabs. Then I fed her deworming tablets for a month. She had an injury between her eyes, so I got the medication for that as well.

I play with her often. She is so damn cute ! When her injuries healed I didn't know her eyes were so wide !

At the moment, I'm not getting another kitten. Yes two is better than one, but the costs double as well. I don't have a catbox big enough for two cats.

Nikki : "This catbox is not enough for the two of us !"

Hi JX,
Maybe u wud consider giving ur cat some good quality food besides Friskies n Whiskas coz they hv lower nutrition value. Food such as Eagle Pack, Iams, Science Diet, Science Plan, Back to Basic etc.

Cats usually love soft places when they lepak or sleep. What I did is that I put old towels on my dining chair n bedroom floor so that they can lie down n rest. Unfortunately, all my cats prefers my bed more.

I m not quite sure what u meant by feeding ur cat deworming pills for a month?? usually u wud give a tablet of deworming pill (shud ur cat is 4kg) every 3 months. pls explain...

As I mentioned that, u need to feel comfortable financially n mentally when getting another cat. It took me 3 years to get my 3rd cat, Speed.

Well I am financially backed to have Nikki, but not strong enough. It's only enough for Friskas and the occasional vet visits.

I even gave her my squash balls as toys to play with.

As for the deworming pill, the vet gave me a tablet and told me to feed her one quarter per week. That means I gotta break the tablet into 4 pieces. 4 weeks make a month.
