Hello Blackie (the CAT and OWNER ...)
Lulu ar? She can be such a diva at times. When she is in one of her diva modes, she ignores and pretends that I am not around!! Come to think of it, she is not the naughty type. She likes to wait for us by the door for us to return.... and will "meow" non-stop, reporting to us what we missed! And of course, she will then walk us to her "food bowl" for, ahem, REFILLS! It is funny to read about blackie chasing after kibbles and "cooing" like a pigeon. Has he been doing that since young? If yes, then probably a reincarnated PIGEON! Brain not wired correctly this time around! hehehe .. Now that we are on about strange behaviours, I remember TomTom eating cat litter sand (fresh ones)!!! To deter her from doing so, I had to mix the fresh litter sand with poo-poo!! Really, Blackie looks like a "Tai Kor" type, don't look like a timid one to me. Probably because he was not out in the "wild" to acquire those survival skills. As for lulu, she was out in the "wild" for a while before I took her in, and she can be quite a fighter! I AGREE, looks can be deceiving! You know, Brownie and Blackie are very famous dog names (I think!). These names bring back the good old kampung days where dogs and cats roamed freely .... I used to have dogs named Brownie and Blackie too! Your mum is totally cool to help out with Blackie, bottle-feeding him .... she must be an animal lover too? Blackie is just so lucky!!!!!! MEOW .... MEOW .... Till then, update with more photos! |

Hi Bina & Lulu,
Lulu sounds so sweet and well-behaved. Oh, she was in the "wild" before you took her in? Wow, she's so lucky. It's a tough life out there in the "wild". How old was she when you brought her in? If you hadn't said so, I wouldn't have known Lulu is a fighter. She looks like such a dainty lady. Oh man, I bet Blackie the CAT would be frightened of her, ha ha. Blackie, despite going to be 3 years old in Nov, still has not learned to behave himself. He would sometimes wait for us behind the door when we returned, too, but unlike Lulu, his intention is not to say hello. Rather, he will crouch down, and just as we stepped inside, he'll pounce on one of our knees, and then, crooing, dashed off with his tail held high. I think he is a mixed-up cat, maybe due to having no mother to teach him better. He thinks we are the prey and he is the predator, or, we're the slave and he's the master. If he uses the litter box while we're at home, he'll come to us, give a few meows, trots back to his litter box and start scratching loudly (re-covering his waste). If we don't follow him into his room to clean his box, he'll come and repeat it until we get the idea. And if he wants his meal now, it means now, not 10 minutes later. If you don't attend to his needs immediately, he'll turn his back on you when you feed him, and if you talk to him, he'll walk into the cage he used as a young kitten. So, now I know that when he turns his back on me, I have to pick him up, put him on my lap, stroke him and apologise a few times before he'd eat. My mum likes to call him "Siew Yeah Chai" (little/young master) when he displays these little tantrums. The myriad of sounds he makes sound similar to what we make at him - e.g., sounds of disapprovals when he did something he shouldn't (the croo sound came from me when I played catch with him when he was a little kitten), and a few months ago, he started making these sounds that sound like "aiya" when I carried him on my shoulder and he wanted to be put down, but didn't get his wish. He also learnt to heave big sighs - traits from my mum. ![]() Another case of monkeys see, monkeys do is, he would watch how drawers are opened, and start opening them. Once he even sat inside the bottom drawer where I kept all my baking ingredients like flour, etc. Oh, your female TomTom (oxymoron, eh?) also ate the litter sands? I think they like that when they were young. Blackie and Brownie did that, too. They sometimes even relaxed in it. My mum isn't really into animals, but she felt sorry for Blackie and Brownie and so helped care for them when I'm not in. But she has grown to love Blackie and is as protective of him as a mother cat. Yeah, Blackie and Brownie are famous names of dogs. My grandfather used to have a dog named Blackie, and the neighbour has a dog named Brownie. They're very obedient. They know who is master, he he he. Hey........one latest bit of news........Blackie is crunching on my mum's snack, and in order to find out why he likes this junk food, I went and tried a piece of his kibble (fresh from the bag, not his food bowl) to find out if both kibble and junk food tastes similar, and I must say the kibble is quite delicious!!! Yumm-yumm ![]() Oh yeah, do keep us updated on the kittens' progress. I'm looking forward to pics of them as they grow. Last edited by blackie007 : 07-07-2008 at 11:31 PM. Hi Blackie's'!!
What? You ate blackie's (the cat) kibble! Oh boy, he will be mad! How does the kibble taste? My brother tried once (WHISKAS) and he said it tasted bland! ![]() BTW, which brand of cat kibble do you feed Blackie? He looks healthy and content!! Have you heard about the price increase in Royal Canin! By almost 30%! Crazy!! So, from today onwards, there will be food ration for Lulu! hehehehe... Now to your question about Lulu, she FOUND US about six months ago, not sure about her age, but according to the vet at AMC, she should be about two years old. She can really fight, I have seen her chasing off a male cat from the house compound! I really enjoy reading about Blackie's behaviour, from a mixed up cat to being such a "Siew Yeh Chai" and not forgetting, sounds that he makes! I have seen "youtube" cats making sounds like "mama", "thank you" ..... so Blackie is one of the talking cats!!! You will be rich and famous!! . It must a joy to watch Blackie grow, from a little helpless kitten to a big and handsome cat! Yes, I will update kitties photos when I can! Till then, Crooo..... to blackie from me! Rgds, Bina |

Hi Bina,
Yes, I've heard of the price increase in Royal Canin. Ha ha ha, that's what my hubby said, too, must ration Blackie's food. Prices of everything, be it edible or not, are all heading north. Each weekend when my hubby and I do our shopping, we nearly suffer heart attacks. Oh, Blackie was too busy sharing my mum's snack to notice me stealing his kibbles. Surprisingly, it tasted quite like my mum's snack - a cuttlefish cracker from the Miaow Miaow (not sure if there's a "w") brand. Maybe my mum could start sharing Blackie's kibbles instead of buying her own snacks, huh? hehehe. On your question as to what brand I buy for Blackie, I've bought various brands in the past. Amongst them Science Plan, Iams, Friskies, Whiskas, Royal Canin, Smart Heart and others that I don't remember. When he turned 1 month, I started weaning him on kitten food. Instead of just soaking the kitten kibbles as per the instruction, I grind them into powder and mixed them with warm milk (kitten formula), so they resembled human baby food. Canned food for breakfast, "baby food" for lunch and dinner with milk and biscuits for tea. But this past 1 year, he's on Smart Heart. The staff at the pet shop suggested this brand as Blackie was getting rather fat. Since eating this brand, he lost some weight. Now I could see his waist. Ha ha ha, Blackie the CAT is not a talking cat lah. Only makes un-catlike sounds. I wish he talks. Then I'll be rich!! At one time, we got concerned that we've never heard Blackie meow. So the vet suggested we play tapes of cats meowing to teach it to meow since he's never had the benefit of a mother. I also meowed alot to him. At last, 1 day, he meowed. But even today, his meow is very tiny and soft, like a kitten's instead of a 2 year plus adult male. Macho? No way, hehehe. Yes, it's a real joy to watch Blackie grow from a helpless kitten to a fully grown cat. You'll be experiencing this pride and joy, too, watching Lulu's babies grow. There's something to be said about it. You'll also become very attached to them like they're your own babies. Oh, Lulu found you? YOUR'RE the lucky one, then. hehehe. Walah, she chases off male cats??!!! Wah, she's the alpha female, huh? I must not bring Blackie the CAT anywhere around her, then. She'll probably tear him to pieces!!! HELP!!! huhuhhu!!!!(from Blackie the CAT) I read somewhere in this forum that you have another cat named Tiger. How many cats do you have? Do they get jealous if you show more attention to one over the others? Once, I rescued another young kitten, but Blackie was so jealous of it. Each time I tried to feed it, he would hiss and growl at the poor kitten, and once, even bit my ankle. One morning, he jumped inside the kitten's box and would have bitten it if my hubby hadn't seen it. I had to take the kitten to the SPCA. Too bad I didn't know of this forum then, or I could have given it to one of the members who genuinely love cats. It was very sweet-looking. I called it Sugar. Had it with me only for a few days. Give Lulu and babies a hug and kiss for me. They're so, so cute...... |
