so what should i feed her? i gave them frieskies and whiskas, can food sometimes boiled fish and vitamin, er..bvit b i think(i bought at pet wonderland), i cant afford to buy them xpensive food as i was a student when i got them, even if i can right now(working already), they seems to enjoy their whiskas than any other brand(i tried to change the food)..any suggestion???

There are three things that will put weight on a cat..eating more food, eating higher calorie foods, or burning less calories.
Ideally, youwant to work on all three areas to put weight on your cat.
The easist thing to encourage weight gain is to find a food he LOVES! If he has a poor appetite, your vet can administer a vitamin B12 injection which will act as an appetite stimulant.
Nutrical is a high calorie, concentrated supplement.Give him one inch of Nutrical, 6-8 times a day in addition to his regular diet.Feed him the Nutrical after his regular meal.
I like feeding human grade, raw sirloin steak to put on weight and coat.i use scissor to cut it into fine strips then sprinkle on a supplement such as kitty bloom or missing link.I feed a generous meal 3-5 times a day, allowing the cat to eat as much as he like.....
So..Catlover,Kucat or Rozita...any others idea???

Putting weight on cats huh.... well perhaps u would consider this ideas, babyxuen:

1. First of all, i must let u know that Friskies and Whiskas r merely junk food for cats which provide low calories n nutrients for ur cat. Perhaps u would really consider to switch to products like Purina, Science Diet or Iams. Should budget is ur main concern, u could mix the food with ur current ones.

2. Now, cat food specially formulated for kittens are usually high in calory. Perhaps u can get ur cats that.

3. How do u normally feed ur cat? U put a lot in his bowl n let him eat for the entire day (that's is what we call free-flow) or u feed him at specific times of the day. Now, giving free-flow food to ur cat will make ur cat tend to over-eat but bare in mind that dry cat food tends to masuk angin fast and some cats r pretty particular abt this. I don't really recommend free-flow or put too much food in his bowl. U can opt for feeding him more regurlary.

4. U can get him fish, stingray or chicken once in a while in order to increase his appetite. sometimes it is bored for them to hv the same old food everyday. Just remember to steam them (fish, stingray & chicken) n let them cool down b4 u feed to ur cat.

5. U can refer to ur vet n he will prescribe u with some vitamins but i would prefer the natural way n furthermore, vet charged a bomb for every visit.

Hope this info helps...

eehh...yesterday i boiled some chicken and feed my babies that, they seems to enjoy it, not only nell but also betty (my fatty cat), budget shouldnt be a problem now coz im working already(last time cannot la, cuz i was a student back then), ill try to get them some'real food', hopefully they can accept them, ill mix whiskas or frieskies with maybe iams(i prefer that brand), increase the amount gradually, hopefully they'll learn to like the new food.

thank u eh 4 ur advice..very usefull....

babyxuen,

When you say skinny, what kind of skinny are you talking about? Can you see her ribs and bones very clearly? Most common cause is due to malnutrition.

Go see a vet and let them tell you if malnutrition is the cause. Then you can get off the guesswork if the food is the problem, or is genetics the case or if your cat actually is having a health condition you're not aware of.

Since you're already working now, buy the best cat food you can afford and try to start getting your cats used to that food. The better quality ones are usually nutritionally adequate as far as the basic needs of a cat is concerned. Anything else extra required, you vet will tell you. And, try to stick with one brand, it's easier to monitor a cat's health progression this way as in weight, skin/coat condition, etc. There is no one perfect brand for every cat, so its your job to find something close to perfect.

You know, some Siamese cats are quite thin when we look at them but it is said to be normal for that particular breed. So genetics? Maybe.

Hope you get your answers soon.

wooz....

I agreed with Woozy that u must explore the wide range of cat food for ur cats to see which one suits them best. For me, i gv SD to Wesley and Pro Plan to Casper. I tried Iams on Casper n he loves BUT he tends to shed a lot of fur n therefore i hv to swtich to Pro Plan now. On n off, a little treat like boiled chicken or stingray to them.

Ok babyxuen... what wooz have said was rite... fine better food and most important suit their appetite.. Forget about the junky food...otherwise by 2-3 years you will have problems with your cat. Trust me. And I also heard about boiling beef and give it to them...plain boiled once a week..I never try .. this was done by my fren and the result was so outrageous... healthy cat... since I malas nak boiled I give them wet food once a while
