Quote:
DO NOT dip your cats meat in bleach. YOU can use bleach to spary the surface area that you are making your cats raw food on, but dipping the meat in clorox is completely unneccessary! The cats digestive tract is extremely acidic and the acid is able to kill pathogens that would normally give a human food poisoning.

The raw food diet is much much much more complicated than just feeding your cats raw meat every now and then.
If you do not make absolutely sure that your diet is balanced you will face health issues in the long run. There are two main reasons to go raw: 1- To maintain the acidity of the cats system. a) Proper acidity prevents lower urinary tract disease because the acidity stops struvite crystals from forming. b) Correct acidity prevents any build up of plaque/tartar on the cats teeth. Most people think that it is the grinding of the bones that helps keep the cats teeth clean... actually it is more appropriate to say that it is the acidity of the cats system that completely prevents plaque from forming. 2- To maintain the function of the cats internal organs (namely the kidneys) throughout its domesticated life.... Since the indoor cat lives a much longer life than the outdoor cat the internal organs need to last longer. One way of making this happen is to make sure the cats system is at the correct level of acidity and the other way is to make sure that when the cats kidney process protein they do so with the correct amount of fluids. The best way to do this is to feed them raw food as it is as close to the cats natural diet as possible. Simply adding water to the cats diet is not enough. Simply feeding your cat raw meat every now and then is also not enough. If you are serious about raw feeding then you need to make sure that you are doing it in a balanced manner and not through guess work.
