Default Post Mortem (bedah Siasat)

I can't be asking about Q like this when it happens out of sudden; so I would appreciate if anyone have any answers so that I know what to do if it happens.
I am not talking about death and burial but I want to know the cause of death. My question is would any vet conduct a postmortem for us?
Has anyone sent your cat for post mortem after its demise before?. Is postmortem expensive? Will the vet return the cadaver to us for burial? Thanks.

Hi KulStud,
Upon request from the owner, a vet can perform post mortem on ur cat but u need to understand a few things 1st.
1. Not all vets willing to do post mortem

2. You need to know whether the vet had done post mortems b4. Some irresponsible vet would mutilate the cat's body and claim post mortem had been done!!

3. Upon request, u can hv ur cat's body back but of course you have to be prepared that before and after post mortem, your cat would look totally different and some might find eerie a bit.

4. As far as I know, I do not know any vet clinics or even lab (maybe UPM might hv this facility) that do chemical tests on cats' blood, liver content etc. Usually a vet would do visual inspection on major organs such as looking for any discoloration, foreign objects or internal injuries.

5. as for the cost, it could vary but one juz need to be prepared lah...

Thanks for the insight H & Catalina.
Since both of you say UPM may have some facilities, next week I will be bringing 2 of my gals for spaying at Hospital Haiwan WP Cheras, I think they have some connection with UPM, I will ask them some details too - (tapi segan lah nak cakap pasal post mortem plak kat sana)

I was just thinking that.. if anything to happen suddenly to any one of my galz I would like to know the cause of it rather than just accept it.
Of course I dont want the vet to mishandle the body just do it neatly I hope.

I pernah sent my 4 month RoTTweiller for post mortem di UPM and they only charge me about RM35 and I only pay them once I am there to collect the report. They will put your cat in the freezer probably cut them up later for their Vet student. You get your report in a week I think. That was few year back then.

Abby, klinik you klinik ape yer?
Anyway I still think that if anything happens to my gals OUT OF SUDDEN cases lah yer I want to send them to postmortem. I have been advised that cats may get decayed fast and better to make the move the same day, so I must be prepared and want to know what to do and where to go. So far I know that Dr. Hasnul and UPM is offering the procedure. As much as possible I dont want mutilation or decomposition but in any case no matter what the body looks like, I would like to have my baby back so that I can tanam her in a place I can pass by and remember that place. I am so sorry if i make some of you sick by posting post-mortem questions. I just wont have the time to contact you if it did strike on the first place. Thanks for all your comments and the private e-mails I received, most of you are very supportive in sharing what you know. Thank you so much.
